Prnce standing ovation to MJ-1988 Grammy Awards

While Michael Jackson still on stage the camera roll up at the stars that looked less then boring (Billy Joe, Stevie Wonder, Prince) during a a forced standing ovation in a obvious attemp to still the night with a stunt notoriously arranged by the Grammy Ceremony producer Quincy Jones (who was MJ sidekick during the night), even worse, a few seconds later U2's "Joshua Tree" won Best Album of The Year against MJ own's "Bad", other nominated including: "Whitney" (Houston) and Prince's "Sign O' The Times", but Bono took the mic to recognized the real superstars of the night in one of Grammys best aceptance speechs ever:

"I'd like to talk about the music, uh, as we set out to make music, soul music. Uh, that's what U2 wanted to make. It was soul music. It's not about being black or white, or the instruments you play, or whether you use a drum machine or not. It's a -- it's a decision to reveal or conceal. And, uh, without it, uh, people like Prince would be nothing more than a brilliant song-and-dance man. That he is, but he's much more than that [big applause] . People like Bruce Springsteen would be nothing more than a, he would be nothing more than a great storyteller. But he's much more than that [applause]. Um, without it, U2 would probably be getting better reviews in the Village Voice, but, um, that, that's a joke. [laughter] Sometimes they don't understand. Uh, without them, U2 certainly wouldn't be here!"

Bono did not, however, mention Michael Jackson, a slap in the face to the Quincy Jones team that monopolys the industry during the 80's. Later during the night, new comer Terence Trent Darby rocked the house with a great rendition of "If You Let Me Stay", once again with a Prince homage.
